You can’t tell us that you’re not revved up and ready to go for the day after cranking up the volume on “Smoke on the Water.” Deep Purple issued this massive hit and many others from their 1972 album release, Machine Head. The record, which has sold millions of copies worldwide, is the heavy metal pioneer’s most commercially successful album.
This episode of Classic Albums tells a musical biography of the incredible story of Machine Head. It features exclusive interviews with band members Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice. The band gives a track by track look at the making of the album, including the songs “Highway Star,” “Smoke On The Water,” “Space Truckin,” “Never Before,” “Pictures Of Home,” as well as a couple bonus tracks. Aside from interviews with the band, the episode is illustrated by archive footage from Deep Purple in concert, including very rare footage of “Smoke On The Water” and “Space Truckin.”
