Sneak Peek | Classic Albums: Iron Maiden – The Number of the Beast

March 22nd, 1982. This date will always be remembered as the day that heavy metal music was changed forever. It is the day that Iron Maiden released their third album, The Number of the Beast, and it was their first album to feature Bruce Dickinson as the lead singer.

In this clip of Classic Albums, we hear from Dickinson and his bandmates as they talk about how much this monumental album meant to the music world. “There’s quite a lot of validity to trying to make music that people do take seriously,” says Dickinson. It’s reasonable to assume that Iron Maiden meant to strike curiosity among its fans while making this album. The Maiden frontman then goes on to say, “It’s not just other people saying, ‘Oh it’s mentalist hoping to get a laugh, isn’t it?’ But it’s not to me.” Dickinson’s bandmates comment on his unique stage presence and close relationship with the audience: a feeling that was missing while touring Maiden’s first two albums.

Watch in-depth interviews with the entire band, as well as others who contributed to the success of Maiden’s The Number of the Beast in the hour-long episode of Classic Albums Wednesday, February 14th at 9/8c on AXS TV.
