When you listen to the song “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” it releases some sort of American nostalgia, though the same can be said for almost all of the tracks on The Band’s masterpiece self-titled album (aka The Brown Album). The album transforms the listener to an older version of America, while still reflecting on current issues at hand that was the turbulent 1960s.
This episode of Classic Albums tells the story of how The Band created this generational album. Through archival interviews, we hear from past members of The Band, describing their contributions and connections to the album. We also hear from some of the music’s industry’s most respected talents, including Eric Clapton and George Harrison. They both talk about their personal relationship with the album and its wide impact on other musicians. Watch the AXS TV premiere of Classic Albums – The Band this Wednesday, September 20th at 9/8c
