Do You Know the Story Behind Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here?

“Wish You Were Here” is the title track on Pink Floyd’s 1975 album Wish You Were Here. Written by David Gilmour and Roger Waters, “Wish You Were Here” was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, the home of many famous records throughout the rise of the rock and roll era. The lyrics are a direct tribute to Syd Barrett, the founder, lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of Pink Floyd. He left the band in 1968 amid mental illness due to his excessive use of psychedelic drugs. However, Glimour and Waters noted that the song can be open to interpretation because Water claims that the lyrics are about himself and the ability to be free and present in one’s own life. Both artists praise the song, “because of its resonance and the emotional weight it carries. It is one of our best songs.” Learn more about “Wish You Were Here” in the sneak peek above and watch the full episode this Saturday, July 20th at 5/4c on AXS TV!
