Eric Clapton Performs "Tell The Truth" Live in San Diego

Watch Eric Clapton Play His Greatest Hits!

"Tell The Truth" was written by guitarist Eric Clapton and keyboardist Bobby Whitlock in summer of 1970 after a relentless marathon of making music. "'Tell the Truth' I wrote one night after we'd been up for days on one of our marathons. We used to just play and play and play. We would literally play for 3 days without stopping," Whitlock said in response to how this classic coming of age tune was written. The song was recorded by the band Derek and the Dominos at the Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida in August of 1970. Duane Allman even influenced the recording of the track, adding his slide guitar "providing a counterpoint to the melody played by Whitlock and Clapton." Derek and the Dominos struggled with the initial recording of the song in London during the sessions for George Harrison's 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass. This session stands as the first recordings by Derek and the Dominos. Luckily, Duane Allman offered his assistance to help the band find the sweet spot and record the "Tell The Truth" we know today. Watch the performance of this iconic single and many more on Eric Clapton Live in San Diego this Saturday, February 9th at 2/1c!
