A Change Is Gonna Come | A Year in Music: 1964

How Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and More Changed the Music Scene

In 1964, the United States saw the end of racial segregation allowing Motown records to reach the mainstream with 114 hit singles, black musicians like Chuck Berry and Little Richard to pioneer rock & roll, and pop music to finally integrate all races. One of the leaders of this movement was Sam Cooke. He racked up 27 Top 40 hits throughout his career since the late 50s, including the track that predicted the future of music, "A Change Is Gonna Come".
