Brian Johnson became famous as the frontman of the Australian rock band AC/DC and his name has been famous ever since. This fall on AXS TV, Johnson hits the road with some of the biggest names in rock & roll history on the brand new series, Brian Johnson’s A Life on the Road. He’ll meet with a star-studded lineup of rockers to learn about what life was like while on tour, their overall career, and (if we’re lucky) they might even share a couple of crazy stories from their heyday. Before the big premiere featuring Sting on September 15th, brush up on your knowledge about one of the newest members of the AXS TV crew!
Johnson is an avowed car enthusiast and his garage would make any gearhead jealous! One of the things that his amazing career as the AC/DC frontman allowed him to do was have the car collection that he has always wanted. Gone are the days of old tour busses, this star makes sure to travel in style, with speed, leather, and great air conditioning. Johnson’s taste in cars ranges from old classics like the Ford Poplar (his first car) and rare 1928 Bentley Vendenplas to the fastest modern cars like the Bentley Continental GT Supersport and Ferrari 458.
Johnson has said he started wearing the newsboy hats on stage after his brother lent him his before a performance. His brother reportedly convinced him to sport the hat on stage to help him keep the sweat out of his eyes and he’s been wearing them ever since. Johnson’s style seems to have ultimately inspired Van Halen vocalist, David Lee Roth, who rocks the newsboy hat as well.
Before AC/DC’s original singer Bon Scott died, he spoke to Angus Young about Brian specifically. Scott believed that Brian Johnson was “a great rock and roll singer in the style of Little Richard.” Little Richard was Bon’s idol, so the band decided to keep playing with Brian filling in Bon’s shoes.
However, if you have a nasty cough, Johnson is surely not the one to go to. In 2014, Brian Johnson was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music from Northumbria University in Newcastle, England. This degree recognizes the significant contribution that he has made to the music industry as the lead singer of one of the world’s most successful rock bands for the past three decades.
Johnson has a cameo in the 2005 film, Goal! The Dream Begins, as well as the Howard Stern’s autobiography, Private Parts.
Brian Johnson’s A Life on the Road PREMIERES September 15th at 9/8c as part of Sunday Night Rocks!
