Ray Charles & Buddy Holly | Rock Legends June 17th

Back to you, Buddy!

This weekend we’re serving up a double dose of Rock Legends! First, we dive into the career and life of Ray Charles! Ray Charles practically founded soul music by bringing together the sincerity of gospel, the secular lyrics and narratives of blues & country, the big-band arrangements of jazz, and the rhythms and improvisational possibilities from all of them. Over the course of his 50 year career, Charles produced hits like “Unchain My Heart,” “Hit the Road Jack” and “Georgia on My Mind.” A blind genius, he is considered one of the greatest artists of all time, landing him a slot on Rock Legends.

Then, we move on to Buddy Holly. Holly was a rock & roll pioneer, known for his signature vocal hiccup. His playful, mock-ingenuous singing, with slides between falsetto and regular voice, was a major influence on major stars including Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, and numerous imitators. Learn all about both of these absolute legends that left us too soon on Rock Legends starting this Sunday, starting at 8/7c.
