The Motown legend reveals the secret inspiration behind one of his best songs

Singer, songwriter, record producer, record executive, founder of one of the most iconic Motown bands of all time, and an all-around legendary artist is sitting down with Paul Shaffer this weekend. Sunday, Shaffer will be joined by Smokey Robinson for a chat about his life in music and his journey as an artist and as a musician. In this sneak peek, Robinson talks about the inspiration behind one of the 4,000 songs he has written over the span of his career, “The Tracks of My Tears”. After he wrote the song, he was left searching for one last perfect addition to the chorus and found it simply by looking in the mirror. This week on A Life on the Road, Brian Johnson hops in a limo with Joe Walsh to ride around Los Angeles, California. The two will visit the iconic historical and musical landmarks of the city while Joe reflects on his early days in the James Gang and subsequent career with The Eagles. In this sneak peek, Joe Walsh talks about how he knew “Rocky Mountain Way” was going to be a huge hit and it ultimately saved his life.
