The Day the Rock Star Died: Hank Williams

This week, we remember one of the world’s best-known and most-loved performers, Hank Williams! Hank Williams is regarded as one of the most significant and influential American singers and songwriters of the 20th century. Williams recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers charts, including 11 that ranked number one (three posthumously). Despite his short life, Williams is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th Century and has been cited as a key musical influence on Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones. We’re celebrating his life and legacy this Tuesday on The Day The Rock Star Died at 8:30/7:30c.

Docs That Rock: John Mellencamp: It’s About You

With a career spanning over 35 years, John Mellencamp has drawn inspiration from his native Midwest to create songs that speak to all of America. His classics, like “Small Town,” “Jack & Diane” and “Pink Houses,” tell powerful, poignant stories of ordinary people trying to live their lives with meaning and integrity. John Mellencamp: It’s About You is the first inside look at the man behind those beloved songs. This documentary follows him as he embarks on a 31 date tour with Wilie Nelson and Bob Dylan. Along the way, he steps inside the historic recording studios where Elvis and Johnny Cash once stood, to create his 2010 critically-acclaimed album, No Better Than This. The rocker reveals an emotional and contemplative side never before seen by the public, in a career-spanning film that becomes a soulful meditation on his beloved heartland. Don’t miss its network premiere this Tuesday at 10/9c.
