The Mekong is about to be transformed by hydro-electric dams in Laos and Cambodia. The electricity promises development for these poor nations, but could wipe away the livelihoods of millions of peasants and fisherman.

Then, farm subsidies have been part of the American landscape for years. Now, Congress is considering whether to kill the payments, some of which go to gentleman farmers living big in the big city.
