Power pop icons Robin Zander, Tom Petersson, and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick sit down with Dan Rather to talk about their early success, signature hits, and why after 45 years together, they’re still touring and making new music. In this sneak peek, the trio talk about how they rocketed to success on the other side of the world in Japan before hitting the mainstream in the United States. After opening for Queen, the Japanese press started to write stories about Cheap Trick and even wrote them into comic books. Their quirky, cartoon-like persona was perceived as “too weird” in the United States, but made them superstars in Japan and led to them recording their best-selling album, Cheap Trick at Budokan.
