For those of your who remember when John Mellencamp released Scarecrow in 1985, you probably remember what a success it was, with signature songs such as “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.” and “Small Town.”
As Dan points out in this TBI clip, a lot of fans considered it the second act that made Mellencamp the music legend that we know him as today. When Dan asks Mellencamp if he feels the same way about Scarecrow, the heartland rocker politely disagrees. “The most popular and being the best at your craft are two different things,” says Mellencamp. He points to his latest albums as his best records because of intellectual growth that comes with age.
