The Event was Hosted by Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood, and Boasts Appearances by Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, & More

LOS ANGELES – November 29, 2016 – Country Music’s Biggest Night™ comes to AXS TV, as the network presents a special broadcast of “The 50TH Annual CMA Awards”—airing Sunday, January 1, at 8pE/5pP. The program, which originally aired on November 2, honored some of the genre’s greatest icons and best new stars in an unforgettable evening that boasted show-stopping numbers, charming skits, and an innovative celebration of the genre’s illustrious past, headlined by a surprise appearance from one of pop’s biggest names.

Filmed live at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, “The 50TH Annual CMA Awards” was a true return to the genre’s roots, placing special attention on some of the beloved artists who helped drive Country to the forefront. Highlights of the star-studded night, which was hosted by fan-favorites Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for the ninth consecutive year, include Country power couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood teaming up for a medley of hits featuring “Jackson,” “Rose Garden,” and “Golden Ring;” Lily Tomlin presenting Dolly Parton with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award; and a show-stopping duet, as acclaimed trio The Dixie Chicks joined Beyoncé for a rousing collaboration of the pop sensation’s hit single “Daddy Lessons.” But the program’s true defining moment occurred when genre superstar Randy Travis took the stage, alongside Underwood, Paisley, Charley Pride, Charlie Daniels, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, and more, for a moving rendition of his signature song “Forever And Ever, Amen,” after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2013 that severely inhibited his ability to move and speak.

“AXS TV is proud to present this very special broadcast celebrating the 50TH Anniversary of the CMA Awards,” said Michele M. Dix, AXS TV’s senior vice president, programming and development. “From emotional performances and surprise guests, to perfectly blending Country’s present with its rich past, the program truly went all-out for the incredible milestone. For those who may have missed its original airing this is a great opportunity for them to catch up and re-live some of the best moments from Country Music’s Biggest Night.”
