LOS ANGELES – November 28, 2016 – AXS TV puts the spotlight on some of rock’s most influential artists in the Guitar Gods Marathon, on Saturday, December 17. The block brings big names and bigger hits to center stage in an epic day of music, kicking off with a special episode of GUITAR CENTER SESSIONS at 1:30pE, as celebrated singer-songwriter Joe Walsh performs classics such as “Rocky Mountain Way” and “Analog Man,” and opens up about his life and career in an intimate interview. Then, stay tuned for the 2016 documentary THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND: AFTER THE CRASH at 2:30pE, which details the powerful story of how the Southern Rock pioneers persevered to become one of the most enduring acts in rock, following the tragic death of guitar mastermind Duane Allman in a motorcycle accident in 1971.
The event continues at 4:30pE, as seminal rock trio Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker perform their last set together, blazing through beloved hits such as “Sunshine Of Your Love,” “White Room,” “I’m So Glad” and more, in this unforgettable show at the sold-out Royal Albert Hall in the 1968 classic CREAM: FAREWELL CONCERT. ERIC CLAPTON: THE 1970s REVIEW follows at 6:10pE, giving viewers a look at guitar maestro Eric Clapton in a unique point in his life—breaking off from his immensely popular band, Cream, and immersing himself in organic collectives that would have a major impact on his legendary legacy as one of the most innovative axemen in music.
Closing out the evening at 9pE, is the premiere of ERIC CLAPTON LIVE IN SAN DIEGO—a 2007 concert filmed live at the IPayOne Center, as Clapton takes the stage for an unprecedented set that shows the guitar legend at the top of his game, delivering powerhouse renditions of “Little Wing,” “Motherless Children,” “Layla,” and so much more. The true highlight, however, is a cameo by acclaimed guitarist—and Clapton’s musical hero—J.J. Cale, who joins Clapton and his band for a five-song set featuring “Anyway The Wind Blows,” “After Midnight,” and “Cocaine.” This was the only show on the tour where Clapton performed with Cale, and it was just the third time that the friends and collaborators had played live together since 1975. Released in September of 2016, this film serves as Clapton’s personal tribute to Cale, who passed away in 2013.
