Film Critic Richard Roeper Makes His Selections for AXS TV’s ‘Thursday Night Movies’ This March

FILM CRITIC RICHARD ROEPER MAKES HIS SELECTIONS FOR AXS TV’S ‘THURSDAY NIGHT MOVIES’ THIS MARCH FEATURING ‘BLUE CHIPS,’ ‘PANIC ROOM’ AND MORE EVERY WEEK AT 9PE

Los Angeles, CA (Feb. 7, 2019) – AXS TV showcases the critic’s choice in its “Thursday Night Movies” event this March with four acclaimed features hand-selected by film critic and TV host Richard Roeper. From sports and gambling to edge-of-the-seat thrillers, “Richard’s Picks” dives into some of the most compelling genres film has to offer airing every Thursday night during the month at 9pE/6pP.

First up, don’t miss one of Roeper’s favorite movies of the 1980s about one of his favorite subjects—gambling—with the 1987 heist-thriller HOUSE OF GAMES on March 7. Roeper applauds playwright & screenwriter David Mametwho wrote and directed this “perfectly constructed jigsaw puzzle in which we’re not sure who’s being conned and who’s the real con artist until the very end.”

The thrills continue March 14 with David Fincher’s PANIC ROOM (2002). Starring Jodie Foster and a young Kristen Stewart as her daughter, Roeper says “Fincher is one of those directors whose every film is an event” and “Panic Room remains one of the top 10 thrillers of the 21st century.”

Then on March 21 is one of Roeper’s favorite film noirs of the last 30 years, the star-studded TEQUILA SUNRISE (1988) featuring Mel GibsonKurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer. Roeper describes the film as “‘Casablanca’ set in sun-drenched California,” and adds “I love this movie!”

Wrapping up “Richard’s Picks,” Nick Nolte stars alongside real-life basketball stars Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway in the 1994 sports classic BLUE CHIPS airing March 28. Roeper chose this film because “it’s arguably the most underrated sports movie about basketball ever made and even though it was released a quarter-century ago, the issues raised in the film are still relevant today.”
