DALLAS (June 11, 2012) – Tomorrow night, “Dan Rather Reports” travels to the north of Jordan, where tens of thousands of Syrian families are arriving after fleeing the unrelenting violence in their country. Our cameras bring back the first television images from a refugee camp set up for those escaping the brutal crackdown by the Assad regime. Here, the men, women and children and speak openly for the first time in their lives. They want to share their stories, cell phone videos and photographs, anxious to send the proof of this violence against innocent people out to the rest of the world -a world from which they desperately and urgently seek help.
“They want to tell you about their pain, they tell you about their stories inside,” said Adib Shishakly, grandson of a former Syrian president, who now lives in exile abroad and is helping refugees find permanent homes in Jordan.
