HDNet’s Independent News Organization Continues Tradition of Excellence

DALLAS (September 27, 2011) – HDNet’s independent news program, “Dan Rather Reports” was honored with yet another News and Documentary Emmy Award last night at the ceremony held in New York City.

“Dan Rather Reports” won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Business and Economic Reporting in a News Magazine for the second year in a row for an investigative report: “The Mysterious Case of Kevin Xu.” The piece – produced by Kelly Buzby, edited by Dan Madden and led by Executive Producer Wayne Nelson and Senior Producer Elliot Kirschner exposed Kevin Xu, a Chinese businessman currently serving a prison sentence for conspiring with others in the Peoples Republic of China to traffic in counterfeit pharmaceutical drugs. These were not only “lifestyle” drugs like Cialis or Viagra – but also and more importantly were counterfeit versions of life saving drugs like Aricept, used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s and Casodex, used to treat prostate cancer.

The team also traveled to Lagos, Nigeria where the battle against counterfeit drugs finds these criminals netting billions of dollars for criminals while targeting those that are the most vulnerable…the poor in Africa.

“What more can I say about ‘Dan Rather Reports'” said Mark Cuban, chairman and co-founder of HDNet. “Week after week they cover in-depth stories with excellence, and the industry definitely takes notice. Two years in a row for this category is an amazing honor. Congratulations to Dan and his team!”

“Dan Rather Reports” airs every Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. ET with a repeat for the West Coast at midnight ET. Copies of “Dan Rather Reports” are also available on iTunes.
