LEGENDARY NETWORK SPORTS COMMENTATOR PAUL MAGUIRE CELEBRATES HIS 45TH YEAR OF BROADCASTING WHEN HE CALLS THE ACTION LIVE ON AXS TV’S COVERAGE OF THE 122ND MONON BELL CLASSIC BETWEEN DEPAUW UNIVERSITY AND WABASH COLLEGE NOV. 14 AT 1pE

LOS ANGELES – Nov. 9, 2015 – One of the longest tenured sportscasters presents one of college football’s oldest rivalries on Saturday, Nov. 14 as color commentator Paul Maguire celebrates his 45th year of broadcasting when he calls AXS TV’s live coverage of the 122ndMonon Bell Classic. This year marks AXS TV’s 10th consecutive live telecast of the annual DePauw University-Wabash College football game, which kicks off at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. Maguire joins play-by-play commentator Rich Cellini in the broadcasting booth for this NCAA Division III rivalry which Wabash holds a 59-53-9 lead over DePauw.

Since 1890, these two teams have met on the gridiron every year with school pride and a trophy made from a 300-pound locomotive bell on the line. The Monon Bell, as the trophy donated by the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad Company in 1932 is called, was originally from a Monon Railroad train, which ran between the two schools in Greencastle and Crawfordsville, Indiana.

A living legend in sports broadcasting, Maguire got his start as a color commentator in 1970 following a celebrated pro football career as both a punter and linebacker with the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers and the Buffalo Bills, where he won three AFL Championships and retired as the league’s all-time punter in punts and yardage.

Maguire’s illustrious broadcasting career has spanned as many TV networks as it has decades, most notably as the voice of “Sunday Night Football” alongside Mike Patrick and Joe Theismann from 1998 to 2005 and two Super Bowl broadcasts with Dick Enberg and Phil Simms. Throughout his time in the broadcasting booth, he has teamed up for NFL and college football broadcasts with many renowned commentators including Marv Albert, Jim Simpson, and Bob Griese.

Maguire joined AXS TV in 2009 when it was known as HDNet for the network’s coverage of the now defunct United Football League in addition to his commentary for the Monon Bell Classic.
