ROCK ICON STING RETURNS TO THE FORMER SITE OF CBGB’S, WHERE THE POLICE PLAYED THEIR DEBUT GIG, IN THIS FIRST-LOOK AT THE SERIES PREMIERE OF BRIAN JOHNSON: A LIFE ON THE ROAD, AIRING SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 AT 9PE
Legendary AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson goes above and abroad to sit down with some of rock’s biggest names, discussing their acclaimed careers and visiting the landmarks that defined them in the globetrotting music series Brian Johnson: A Life On The Road, making its Stateside debut Sunday, September 15 at 9pE/6pP on AXS TV.
The series premiere finds Johnson traveling to New York City to catch up with 17-time GRAMMY-winning rock superstar Sting. In this exclusive first-look, the pair heads to the former site of The Police’s first gig, the quintessential punk venue CBGB’s, which Sting describes as “kind of a spooky place… it was full of history.” Though it was a premier destination for established acts and up-and-coming stars alike, the venue’s accommodations were less than glitzy—this, however, only added to its charm and mystique. Sting explains, “It was a bathroom that was the dressing room, and it was a toilet [with] graffiti everywhere. There was a little stage ‘round the corner, maybe 100 people you’d get in there at the most.”
The night would prove to be a defining moment not just for the band but for Sting, himself, who would forge several lasting relationships with the record execs who made the trek to watch the set. “The record company didn’t want to see us,” he continues. “Some of them came anyway, just out of curiosity why these kids from England would come with no tour support… It’s funny, about half a dozen of those people who came are still in my life now, 45 years later.” Check it out here.
Brian Johnson: A Life On The Road airs every Sunday at 9pE/6pP, only on AXS TV.
