WATCH: ZZ TOP’S BILLY GIBBONS DISCUSSES THE MUSICAL TEXANA THREAD THAT INSPIRED HIS ICONIC SOUND ON ‘PAUL SHAFFER PLUS ONE,’ PREMIERING SUNDAY, OCT. 6 AT 8PE/5PP
Legendary ZZ Top axeman Billy Gibbons sits down with GRAMMY©-winning entertainer Paul Shaffer this Sunday, Oct. 6 at 8pE/5pP on AXS TV’s original series Paul Shaffer Plus One, to discuss his life and career, while performing a few of his hits.
In this first-look clip, Gibbons discusses the musical influences that helped him create his iconic blues rock sound, before an impromptu performance of the Muddy Waters classic Rollin’ and Tumblin.’
“It would be fair to say that from the [Moving] Sidewalks standpoint all of us had come up with this Texas background,” said Gibbons, “and so much of it was this combination of country and western, but hardcore blues and R&B. There was no way around it. You got it.”
“I don’t know if there’s any exponent of Texana, but there is a thread that weaves it all together. My good friend Jimmie Vaughan, he and I have talked about it for hours and days on end. It may go back to the time when there was nothing else to do but sit on the porch and play a guitar. And with that much time on your hands, you got good.”
Paul Shaffer Plus One airs every Sunday at 8pE/5pP, bringing Shaffer’s popular radio show to AXS TV, as he sits down with an all-star roster of music icons to discuss their legendary legacies and jam on their most enduring hits.
Next week, Shaffer interviews and jams with Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen on Sunday, Oct. 13.
