Rock Legends #1309: Doo-Wop Extra | Doo-wop is a genre of acapella rhythm and blues music, which originated in the 1930s and '40s in African American communities in big US cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, and it's a capella because the focus is on vocal harmonies and this beautiful layering between a lead vocal and these strong voices underneath, which mimic instruments. There's the sound of bass or reed or string instruments, and also this idea that the doo-wop sound comes from mimicking drums.

In the mid-1960s when they started to fade out, the subculture listened to rock groups with jazz and blues influences such as the Who and Small Faces.
