A Night of Finishes and Titles at Lion Fight 28 | Highlights and Results

Wielzen Upsets Topic and Nattawut Dominates Once Again

Lion Fight 27 back in January featured six fights and six decisions. Lion Fight 28 was MUCH different as only one of the main card fights required help from the judges.

Foxwoods Resort and Casino was the site for another great night of Muay Thai Friday, as Lion Fight 28 delivered finish after finish and crowned two champions. The night started off in quick fashion as Asa Ten Pow, Bryce Lawrence, Chris Mauceri, and Ky Hollenbeck all delivered fast (and brutal) stoppages.

In the night’s co-main event, Ognjen Topic returned to defend his lightweight title against Sergio Wielzen. Topic came in with the belt but he would not leave with it. The Dutchman, Wielzen, cut open Topic’s face with an elbow that would lead to a doctor’s stoppage and the crowning of a new champ.

In the main event super welterweight champion “Smokin” Joe Nattawut and Cedric Manhoef (fighting on 3 weeks notice) squared off in the only bout of the night to go the distance. The champ displayed his dominance once again, landing quick and punishing strikes while keeping the challenger at bay with great defense. Nattawut cruised to a unanimous decision victory and his second title defense.

Here are the highlights:

  • Jo Nattawut def. Cedric Manhoef via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45)
  • Sergio Wielzen def. Ognjen Topic via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) 0:50 Round 3.
  • Ky Hollenbeck def. Justin Greskiewicz via TKO (Elbows) 2:09 Round 2
  • Chris Mauceri def. Nick Chasteen via KO (Elbows) 1:55 Round 1
  • Bryce Lawrence def. Yeison Berdugo via KO (Kicks Punches) 2:33 Round 1.
  • Asa Ten Pow def. Turan Hasanov via TKO (doctor stoppage) 0:47 Round 3
