With a recent upset of former UFC champion Tim Sylvia, Abe Wagner (8-3) now is slated to fight fellow heavyweight Aaron Rosa (15-3) at next month’s Titan Fighting Championship 17 event.
Officials today announced the fight.
The event takes place March 25 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., and airs live on HDNet.
Previously announced fights include former WWE star/Strikeforce vet Bobby Lashley (5-1) vs. M-1 Challenge veteran James Jack (6-2-1) and Phil Baroni (13-13) vs. Nick Nolte (3-2).
“Both Abe and Aaron like to stand in the pocket and trade,” Titan Fighting CEO Joe Kelly stated. “Fans attending the fight at Memorial Hall and viewers watching at home on HDNet will have a lot to look forward to when it comes to Titan Fighting Championship 17. However, Wagner vs. Rosa is the matchup to watch because it has all the hallmarks of an epic slugfest.”
Wagner, a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 10,” now has won five of his past six fights, four of which came via stoppage. The lone defeat came to current UFC fighter Travis Browne at an early-2010 Victory Fighting Championships event.
Wagner’s win over Sylvia, which came in a mere 32 seconds, has registered more than 800,000 YouTube views, according to the announcement. The Wagner vs. Sylvia fight available for free here on MMAjunkie.com also has scored countless views.
Rosa, meanwhile, has competed for major organizations such as Strikeforce, Bellator and EliteXC. Most recently, the former light heavyweight topped Devin Cole at September’s Shark Fights 13 event. It was his third straight win and his fifth victory in his past six fights. The lone defeat came to current Strikeforce champ Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante in late 2009.
