RFA 24 on AXS TV had it all Friday: finishes, twins, and one of the strangest championship fights you’ll ever see!
The Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota was the site for another great night from the RFA. The night’s main event featured a welterweight tile fight between Benjamin Smith and Tat Romero. The fight had the makings of a classic, as Romero came out to the theme from The Exorcist and glared at Smith all the way to the opening bell. Once the bell sounded though, Romero froze up. Romero hardly threw any strikes in almost 3 rounds of MMA and the fight ended with him curled up on the canvas as Benjamin Smith cruised his way to the welterweight championship.
The night’s co-main event featured the return of Jeff “Big Frog” Curran out of retirement as he took on Melvin Blumer. Blumer’s twin, Marvin had just lost a lopsided decision the fight before and for almost the first round, it looked like Melvin might suffer the same fate. Instead, Blumer scored one of the best comeback wins and surprising knockouts you’ll see with a backhand that landed right on the button before the bell went off to end round 1.
