Expierence Pays off for Butler, Bulldogs Take Care of Delaware 75 to 58

Just one year removed from playing for the NCAA national championship, Butler began their quest to become CBI champions by knocking off the University of Delaware Blue Hens 75 to 58 in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational presented by Zebra Pen.

Poor shooting plagued the Blue Hens in the first half, shooting just 38% from the field and 1 of 4 beyond the arc.  Butler wasn’t much better shooting at only a 36% clip, but converting 5 of 10 from the three point line to take an 8 point lead into halftime.

Butler continued the stifling defense, opening the second half with a 11 to 2 run and holding Delaware’s leading scorer throughout the season, Devon Sadler, without a bucket until the 10 minute mark in the second half.

Delaware, making their first post season appearance in over a decade, briefly cut the lead to single digits but a 10 – 3 Butler run got the Bulldogs out in front by 15 and they never looked back.

Juinor big man Andrew Smith led the way for the Bulldogdropping 17 points and pulling down 7 boards. The Blue Hens recieved a great effort from Jarvis Threatt who scored 31 in a losing cause.

Butler will go on to face Penn, who beat Quinnipiac, LIVE on HDNet Monday March 19th.  The Blue Hens finish the season 18-14.
