CES MMA Closes Out Their 2015 By Crowning a Welterweight Champ | CES XXXI Results & Highlights

Freitas Seizes Moraza-Pollard’s Knee AND the Welterweight Title

Just another night of finishes on AXS TV…

Like so many other events lately on AXS TV, CES MMA delivered finish after finish on Friday. Five of the six fights featured finishes including the night’s main event. The headliner of CES MMA XXXI was a welterweight title fight between Gil de Freitas and Chip Moraza-Pollard. Moraza-Pollard’s movement and kicks frustrated Freitas early in round one, so the Brazilian went for the takedown and would get a knee bar submission before the end of the round, claiming the welterweight title.

The night kicked off in amazing fashion as cruiserweight Greg Rebello scored a walk-off knockout in the first fight of the main card. Also on the card, promotional newcomer Daniel Vizcaya silenced the crowd with a first round submission of Chuck O’Neil and Kody Nordy halted Dinis Paiva’s hot streak with a first round submission of his own.

Here are the highlights:

  • Gil de Freitas def. Chip Moraza-Pollard via Submission (Kneebar) 4:37 Rnd 1
  • Daniel Vizcaya def. Chuck O’Neil via Submission (rear-naked choke) 2:19 Rnd 1
  • Kody Nordby def. Dinis Paiva via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) 2:42 Rnd 1
  • Eric Spicely def. Aaron Johnson via Unanimous Decision (30-26 30-26 30-26)
  • Andre Soukhamthath def. Carlos Galindo via TKO (elbows) 3:46 Rnd 2
  • Greg Rebello def. Mike Mucitelli via KO (Punch) 3:24 Rnd 1
