A brand new year of fights on AXS TV kicked off in great fashion Friday as CES MMA delivered six fights, all ending via finish.
It was an easy night to be a judge at CES MMA XXXII, only one main card fight made it out of the first round including the night’s main event. The main event at CES MMA XXXII featured the return of welterweight champ Gil Freitas as he put his belt on the line, only a couple months after winning it. Freitas’ reign as champ would not last long as Team Quest prospect Chris Curtis stopped the Brazilian with brutal strikes in the very first round of their five round fight. Curtis is now 13-4 and the new CES MMA welterweight champ.
In the co-main event, a short-notice fight between Luis Felix and Ryan Sanders ended in unfortunate fashion in the only fight to make it out of the first round. Lightweight champ Felix was supposed to defend his strap at CES MMA XXXII, but his opponent dropped out due to injury. Maine’s Ryan Sander’s took the fight on short notice in a fight that was changed to a non-title contest. In round 2 Felix’s knee popped out after an awkward takedown, ending what was an entertaining scrap.
Also on the card, Manny Bermudez and Kyle Bochniak kept their undefeated records intact and Kody Nordby and Ashley Gooch earned first round, submission victories.
