Looking for his first successful title defense, MFC welterweight champion Douglas Lima recently took on UFC vet Terry Martin at MFC 29.
Lima was on a roll heading into the April fight. And Martin, though on a 2-6 skid from 2007-2009, entered the bout with back-to-back victories.
One fighter’s string of success was coming to an end, though.
Each week HDNet and MMAjunkie.com release a new and exclusive fight from the ever-growing HDNet Fights video library. Stunning knockouts, slick submissions, shocking finishes and legendary brawls are the norm for this weekly feature.
Lima vs. Martin is no exception.
Lima (17-4 at the time), a five-year pro known most for his submissions, in fact tapped out Jesse Juarez in his previous bout to him the MFC title. He went for his sixth straight victory overall (and 16th stoppage in 18 career wins) against Martin (21-8), an eight-year vet on the comeback trail. With proven knockout power, Terry entered the bout on the heels of a three-fight win streak with 18 stoppages in 21 career victories.
So would Lima defend his title, or would Martin claim the strap?
