Billed as a “Battle of the Giants,” Titan Fighting Championships 16’s main event saw 569 pounds worth of fighting force clash in the cage at the January event.
But would “The Ultimate Fighter 10” cast member Abe Wagner’s 258 pounds prove enough to topple super heavyweight and former UFC champion Tim Sylvia’s massive 311-pound frame?
It didn’t take long to find out.
Each week HDNet and MMAjunkie.com release a new and exclusive fight from the ever-growing HDNet Fights video library. Stunning knockouts, slick submissions, shocking finishes and legendary brawls are the norm for this weekly feature. Sylvia vs. Wagner certainly fits the bill.
Sylvia was originally expected to face chiseled UFC castoff Todd Duffee, but the heavyweight withdrew from the fight in favor of a New Year’s Eve matchup with Alistair Overeem.
While Sylvia has been the victim of much criticism following a three-fight losing streak in bouts against Ray Mercer, Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the former UFC champion entered the Titan Fighting Championships 16 bout with a four-fight win streak.
Meanwhile, after being bounced out of “TUF 10” in the tournament’s opening round, Wagner was hoping to use the bout as a showcase fight to prove his worth on the big stage.
Would Sylvia continue his winning ways in a bid to return to the sport’s biggest organizations, or would Wagner make a statement regarding his own future potential?
