Legacy Owner and Henry Cejudo Talk to “Inside MMA” About Legacy Card Shakeup
Earlier this week Olympic gold-medalist Henry Cejudo pulled out of his scheduled title fight at Legacy 31 citing “personal reasons.” The undefeated Cejudo has had a rocky start with Legacy Fighting, missing weight and showing up late for weigh-ins. Legacy Owner Mick Maynard had this to say about the latest disappointment:
“The questions that come to mind are 1. Do you really want to do this? 2. Do you have people in your life that will kick you in your ass when you are screwing up and hold you accountable? If you say you are going to do something you do it. After the last weight issue I would have really expected him to want to prove to the world that he was on top of it.”
The Beijing Olympic gold-medalist had this to say to “Inside MMA:”
“Legacy, and their broadcast partner AXS TV, has been, and I’m certain will continue to be, tremendous partners. It was indeed unfortunate that I had to pull out of Legacy’s June event. Much is frequently said within the realm of social media, and often time will little or no information to support a point of view, but I want to assure everybody that pulling out to the Legacy 31 event was a difficult one, and was made for good and valid personal reasons. It had absolutely nothing to do with my commitment to Legacy, the sport of MMA, my training and conditioning, or willingness to fight and compete. I fought six times in my first year in MMA competition in order to gain an understanding, and respect, for the complexities of MMA. My commitment to Legacy, the sport of MMA, my quest to be a world champion, and my own sense of service to community, has never been in doubt in my mind, and my continued commitment to excellence will always incorporate an intelligent and disciplined effort”.
Elias Garcia, who lost to Cejudo in January, will now step in for Cejudo against UFC vet Damacio Page at Legacy 31, June 13th in Houston on AXS TV.
