NJPW G1 Climax 29 Night 13

Will SANADA be the one to finally stop The Rainmaker?

Last Saturday night we witnessed Kazuchika Okada defeat a very determined KENTA in what was the IWGP Heavyweight Champion’s toughest bout to date. It was a back-and-forth contest with KENTA coming very close to victory a number of times. With Okada’s win, he is now the only undefeated wrestler within the A Block. Let’s take a look at the standings below!

The run-down for this Saturday’s action looks like this:
Kazuchika Okada vs. SANADA
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kota Ibushi
Will Ospreay vs. EVIL
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Lance Archer
KENTA vs. Bad Luck Fale

We have to emphasize “to date” because Okada’s next opponent is SANADA. It is true that SANADA has yet to beat The Rainmaker in singles competition, however, you must take into account that his last two matches were against Will Ospreay and KENTA who both had the champion on the ropes. The exhaustion factor has to be in play and for SANADA this may be the prime opportunity he has been looking for. Even if he may not win the G1, a win over the heavyweight champion is a huge boost to the credibility and motivation for this Los Ingobernables de Japon competitor. You can even argue he may be due for another title shot.
