Night seven coverage of the G1 Climax 29 on AXS TV from Korakuen Hall had its classic moments. We witnessed Zack Sabre Jr. outsmarting Bad Luck Fale to a countout finish to finally win two points. Despite being dominated throughout the entire match, Hiroshi Tanahashi pulled out a victory roll on the “American Psycho.” Of course, the talk of the town was the incredible matchup between CHAOS stablemates Kazuchika Okada and Will Ospreay. The Ariel Assassin threw everything he had at the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, but at the very end he fell short to some devasting Rainmakers.
As of Tuesday, July 23rd here are the current standings –
We return with more A Block action from night nine of the G1 tournament –
Kazuchika Okada vs. KENTA
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. SANADA
EVIL vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
Will Ospreay vs. Bad Luck Fale
Kota Ibushi vs. Lance Archer
The main event will feature competitors who have remained undefeated in this year’s G1-Okada and KENTA. KENTA has been on a complete tear since leaving his former employer and joining New Japan. Feeling that he can finally wrestle his style, he has put all of his A Block opponents on notice as he goes through each one of them with such brilliance. Matching up against the Rainmaker will be the toughest fight for him within his block. Okada, for years, has figured out a way to put everyone away. He has the speed, stamina, experience, and heart to pull out a victory each and every time. What may catch the current five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion off guard is KENTA’s demeanor, which may show the world what has been lying dormant for years. KENTA knocked off the former IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Kota Ibushi, with such precision in his first-ever G1 match. He very well may put the champ to sleep.
A lot of points are on the line and the way to find out who’s gaining what is to tune in THIS SATURDAY NIGHT 9/8c. It’s all part of SATURDAY SLAM and you won’t want to miss it!
