The winds of change are growing stronger at the windowsill. For years and years Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, and Hiroshi Tanahashi have been the top pillars of New Japan Pro Wrestling. Their matches are memorable, their presence entering the ring are undeniable. All of those men can still put on wrestling clinics but as time goes on the younger talent get hungrier and more determined. Eventually in a blink of an eye the young lions take over.
This Saturday night we will witness a fight for the future. G1 Climax 29 winner, Kota Ibushi, has earned the right to fight the IWGP Heavyweight Champion at Wrestle Kingdom 14. A huge privilege that will no doubt shoot the Golden Star into the stratosphere. On top of winning the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Madison Square Garden, this has been an incredible year for Ibushi. With less than three months away from his title opportunity, he has another hurdle to climb before “cashing in”.
EVIL is a breakout star waiting to happen. Recognized by the New Japan audience for his tag team contributions with fellow LIJ member, SANADA, EVIL wants the world to see he can make a bigger impact in the heavyweight singles division. He is not someone who should be taken lightly and he will let it be known it Tokyo.
It’s Kota Ibushi vs. EVIL with a title shot opportunity for Kazuchika Okada’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship in front of a packed house at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in January. Ibushi needs to burn bright this Saturday night or risk having the lights turn out on him
