Slow Start Costs Western Illinois Against Oregon State, Beavers win 80 to 59

It was the first postseason tournament game for the Western Illinois Leathernecks and they came out like it. Oregon State began the game with a 16 to 2 lead and the Leathernecks were never able to recover. The Leathernecks shot 35% in the first half and went into halftime trailing 25 to 36.

The 2nd half didn’t start out much better for Western Illinois as they shot 25% through most of the 2nd half. Oregon State stayed hungry in the 2nd and shot 68% on their way to an 80 to 59 win.

Don McAvoy led the Leathernecks in scoring, scoring 19 points off the bench. Four Oregon State players scored double-digits with Jared Cunningham leading the way putting up 22 points and 8 rebounds.
