It was an event that lived up to the hype. For months we waited for the promotion versus promotion, RFA versus Legacy event, and it was worth the wait. For the first time in the U.S. two well-established promotions went head-to-head in a night that will hopefully pave the way for similar events in the future.
The 6-fight main card at RFA vs. Legacy featured 4 head-to-head match ups and two championship fights in each of the promotions. RFA flyweight champ Alexandre Pantoja and Legacy flyweight champ Damacio Page met in the main event to decide the AXS TV Superfight title. Page rocked Pantoja with some heavy shots in round 1 and in round 2 the fight went to the ground. For most of the 2nd, Pantoja hunted for the submission and he finally got it as the bell rang to end the round, Page was asleep and the belt was Pantoja’s. The win put the finishing touches on a victory for the RFA over Legacy. RFA won 3 out of 4 head-to-head match ups, Bojan Velickovic and Adam Townsend earned decision wins early on and Brian Hall got the lone win for Legacy via first round submission.
In other action, both the RFA bantamweight and Legacy lightweight titles were on the line. In the co-main event, Luke Sanders returned to defend his title against Terrion Ware. Known more for his wrestling, Sanders put on a striking clinic, pummeling Ware for 25 minutes to keep his title. Before that, veteran Mike Bronzoulis battled Dave Burrow for the Legacy lightweight title. The two fought for 25 hard minutes before Bronzoulis earned the unanimous decision in a very close fight.
