After a poor showing the week before in the Pac-12 tournament, Washington State roared back in the first round of the CBI winning at the University of San Francisco 89 to 75. The Cougars jumped out to an early 24-10 lead in the first half but San Francisco was able to erase the deficit and pull to within one point of the Cougars at halftime.
The Cougars seemed to slow down as the first half went on but they came out after halftime with a 12-3 run and the Dons were never able to fully make up the gap. Brock Motum scored a game high 24 points for the Cougars and Marcus Capers controlled the game scoring 12 points and adding 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Dons Forward, Cole Dickerson led his team with 11 rebounds and 19 points, including 15 points in the first half.
Washington State advances to the quarterfinals next week and will play the winner of tomorrow night’s matchup between North Dakota State and Wyoming.
