From kickboxing events to promotion vs. promotion events to MMA events with plenty of finishes, Legacy has been on a roll this year. Legacy is back at it tonight on AXS TV and here’s what to watch for.
The Florida fight camp that is home to stars like Anthony Johnson, Tyrone Spong, and Vitor Belfort was featured on the latest season of the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter. The Blackzilians defeated cross-town rivals American Top Team with the help of Legacy Alum Kamaru Usman and Valdir Araujo and Carrington Banks. Now, fresh off the win “BBMonstro” Araujo and Banks are headed to Houston to square off with Legacy vets Alex Morono and Justin Reiswerg. Araujo (14-5) has been around a while and has fought with Bellator and WSOF, he actually fought on AXS TV at CFA 12 in 2013. Banks (3-0) is still a bit of an unknown who, outside of TUF, hasn’t fought since 2013. Both fighters earned victories on The Ultimate Fighter and they will look to do the same tonight at Legacy 44.
We got our first look at undefeated Sage Northcutt (4-0) back in June at Legacy 42, where despite his highly touted striking, submitted his opponent in the very first round. At just 19 years old, Northcutt is already a decorated kickboxer and karate practitioner, as well as a purple belt in jiujitsu. The Texas A&M student fought as an amateur in the Legacy Fighting Amateur Series going 5-1 (those 5 all in a row). All four of his pro victories have come in the first round, in fact his four fights have lasted a combined 10:23. Northcutt will face 37 year-old Rocky Long (22-33-1) tonight on AXS TV.
The Legacy Fighting Championship has been a staple of HDNet/AXS TV Fights for a long time. They’ll reach 50 events in early 2016. Stars like Holly Holm, Thomas Almeida, and Daniel Pineda have come up through the promotion. Legacy 44 features nine fighters who are returning to the Legacy cage. Alex Morono, Bilal Williams, Charlie Ontiveros, Justin Reiswerg, Rey Trujillo, Jonathan Harris, Sage Northcutt, Colin Wright, and Ryan Hollis have 60 combined pro fights under the Legacy banner. In other words, you’ll probably recognize a few faces tonight on AXS TV.
There are certain fighters out there that you just know are going to produce fireworks. That’s the case with both Jonathan Harris and Rey Trujillo tonight at Legacy 44. Harris (9-5) has 3 KOs and 2 TKOs in his 9 wins and Trujillo (18-14) has 3 KOs and 10 TKOs in 18 wins. Both Harris and Trujillo have been finished their fair share too, Harris 4 TKO/KO losses and Trujillo 6 TKO/KO losses. This all adds up to a very entertaining matchup where someone is probably going to sleep…
