Muay Thai is back tonight on AXS TV, and as usual Lion Fight has whipped up a great card for the fans. Here’s what you need to know before tonight’s Lion Fight 23.
For the third time this year “The Timebomb” is set to enter the Lion Fight ring. After losing her title by very close decision to Caley Reece last year, Tiffany Van Soest has bounced back in dominant fashion dispatching Sindy Huyer, Chajmaa Bellakhal, and most recently Bernise Alldis. Her last win over Alldis earned her the title of Lion Fight Featherweight Champion once again. Tonight Van Soest will put her belt on the line against another young up-and-coming Muay Thai talent in Martyna Krol. Originally from Poland, Krol has made a home in Thailand training and competing there the last two and a half years. In that span of time, the barely 21 year-old Krol has put together a 30-10 record. The champ Van Soest has delivered a more aggressive, more improved version of herself since she lost her belt, we’ll see what kind of “Timebomb” we see now that the belt is around her waist again.
About this time last year the now (146-29-6) Malaipet was in a tough spot. He was coming off a couple of tough losses and some people were wondering if retirement could be in the accomplished Thai’s future. Since then Malaipet has bounced back with victories over Justin Greskiewicz and Ben Yelle and he will now headline the Lion Fight 23 card against the heavy hitting English fighter Liam Harrison. Now living and training out of Fresno, Malaipet will look to continue his win-streak and put on a show for the fans in California tonight.
Kevin Ross is probably the best American Muay Thai fighter out there today and always a fan favorite at Lion Fight. After defeating Michael Thompson last summer to win the Super Lightweight Title, Lion Fight gave him the opportunity to avenge an earlier loss to Tetsuya Yamato. Yamato edged Ross via decision back at Lion Fight 11 and this was a rematch everyone was waiting for. The rematch didn’t last long as Yamato sliced and diced his way to a stoppage victory. Now healed up, Ross is back and ready to rebound. He’ll have his hands full tonight though as he squares off with Rungrat Sasiprapa, it will be exciting to see how the former champ bounces back.
Lion Fight was showcased a lot of great young Muay Thai talent over the years on AXS TV and Victor Saravia might be one of the most exciting. He may only be 122 pounds, but Saravia packs a punch, rattling off three straight wins to begin his pro career. So far he’s defeated Anthony Castrejon, Andy Singh, and Sam Poulton in the Lion Fight ring and he’ll look to add Stan Mancebo to the list tonight on AXS TV.
Andrew Kapel vs. Mike Lemaire
This one’s a Glory rematch. Andrew Kapel lost a close decision to Lemaire in a Glory 8-man tournament in 2013 and he’ll be looking for revenge. Kapel was more than happy to except fight even on just two weeks notice. Meanwhile, Mike Lemaire is a perfect 13-0 in Muay Thai.
