Matt Bessette Brawls to Retain His Featherweight Title | CES 44 Highlights & Results

Plus Greg “Ribz” Rebello Ends it With a Submission in the Last Few Seconds!

The Featherweight title was on the line in the main event last night where the champion, Matt “The Mangler” Bessette took on Rey “The Warrior” Trujillo, who is known for his upsets. It was quickly apparent in the first round that this fight was about to be an epic scrap. In the first, both men exchanged strikes, turning the battle into a slugfest. In the second, the slugfest continued, and within the last few seconds, Bessette threw a combo that was ultimately the demise of Trujillo. The doctors called a stop to the fight in between the second & third rounds, declaring Bessette victorious and still the Featherweight champion of CES MMA.

Rumor is that Greg “Ribz” Rebello has been contacted by the UFC and with a win in the co-main event at CES 44, his next fight may be with them. Well, Rebello scored that win against Kevin Ray Sears Jr late in the 3rd round by submitting him. This was Rebello’s first submission win since 2012! Sears Jr deserves some credit though because he survived an onslaught for three rounds and survived almost everything that Rebello was throwing his way.

Here are the highlights:

  • Matt Bessette def. Rey Trujillo via TKO (Punches / Doc Stoppage) 5:00 Round 2
  • Greg Rebello def. Kevin Ray Sears Jr via Submission 4:47 Round 3
  • Sean Soriano def. Jacob Bohn via TKO (Kicks) 3:21 Round 2
