The X Factor UK Results Show Week Seven Recap
We’re down to five as a surprise double elimination upped the stakes for the whole weekend.
The theme was Whitney Houston v Elton John and each of the seven remaining acts upped their game, as there was more pressure than ever with a double elimination weekend announced.. Sunday started off with a bang as Lauren Platt brought out her brother for an amazing dancy performance. Andrea was overjoyed to have this week’s theme be right in his wheelhouse. Ben Haenow (bravely?) took on Whitney Houston’s most iconic song, to the chagrin of Mel B and Cheryl. Fleur East continued on improving every week, while Only The Young got silly with silly string and sang the song that got them through auditions. Stereo Kicks got a #StandingO from the judges, while Stevi Ritchie seemed to get a #GottaGo with his sticky rendition of I’m Still Standing. However, this was double elimination weekend, and in truly shocking fashion, Only The Young were sent home.
For weeks Stevi has admitted that he was amazed still to be in the competition, but week-on-week he’s managed to cling onto his place. On Monday however all of that changed, as he met his match in Italian soul singer Andrea. As both faced each other in the sing-off, neither wanted to be defeated, and both singers put their all into their survival songs, with Andrea opting for Nina Simone’s Stop, while Stevi chose This is the Moment from the musical Jekyll and Hyde. But while Stevi stepped up and gave what was widely regarded as his best performance yet, it was no match for Andrea’s faultless vocals, and Stevi was sent home. Show highlights below…
All of the contestants sing Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright” in a group performance
Stevi saved his best for last, but it wasn’t enough to save him.
We didn’t expect to see Andrea in the sing-off, but it meant more Andrea singing, so we were okay with it.
Today, heaven gained an angel. Stevi Ritchie leaves the show.
