In 1998, the ladies and the boy bands were rising to the top. One of them being *NSYNC who released their debut album in March of 1998. The group was formed when former Mouseketeers, JC Chasez & Justin Timberlake were put together by their infamous producer, Lou Pearlman. Thanks to the help of MTV’s brand new countdown show, Total Request Live, *NSYNC’s second single “Tearin’ Up My Heart” was tearing up the charts. They took turns sharing the #1 spot for five months with another boy band, Backstreet Boys and their single “I’ll Never Break Your Heart”. But the boys weren’t the only ones at the top of the TRL countdown. Fellow Mouseketeers, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears made their debuts with respective mega hits “Genie in a Bottle” and “…Baby One More Time”. Spears even earned the title as “The First Lady Of TRL” with 14 of her legendary videos were honorably retired by Total Request Live. Want to learn more about 1998?
