The year 2005 was the year that our host Lzzy Hale’s band Halestorm got signed to Atlantic records… now she’s got her own TV show! It’s also the year that natural disasters hit the world hard. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina was due to make contact with land. New Orleans felt the brunt of the effects with 80% of the city underwater, $125 billion in damage, over one million homeless, and took 1,200 lives. Additionally, an earthquake hit Southeast Asia on December 24th, 2004 which resulted in over 225,000 deaths. In the wake of the disaster, musicians stepped up to raise over $14 billion worldwide. Eric Clapton and Snow Patrol teamed up for the Tsunami Relief Cardiff concert in Wales, George Clooney hosted NBC’s Tsunami Aid with Kenny Chesney, Madonna, and Diana Ross, and U2 donated proceeds for Tsunami and Katrina relief.
