In 1970, Elvis Presley decided to crash the White House. He drove to the front gate dressed in his is velvet suit on and his low-cut shirt and his gold and diamond belt buckle and tried to convince Richard Nixon that he would like to aid in fighting drugs. Ironically, he was completely stoned at the time. However, he believed that his celebrity status would help him infiltrate the drug rings and “save the youth of America from the ravages of drugs.” While nobody is entirely sure on how far their conversation went, Nixon did award Elvis a badge from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Was it just a gift to keep him quiet or did it mean something more? We investigate on Music’s Greatest Mysteries. Watch all-new episodes on AXS TV every Sunday at 9/8c.
