How KISS Gained Popularity in Detroit | The Top Ten Revealed

September 29, 2020

Posted in: The Top Ten Revealed

All that they had to do was write a song about the city

When KISS originally released “Detroit Rock City” as an A side single, but switched it over to the B side when the song charted in only one place… Detroit. “I had the basic riff of the song, the ‘Get up, get down’ part,” Paul Stanley recalls, “but I didn’t know what the song was about except it was about Detroit.” The track is really based around a real life incident (that actually didn’t happen in Detroit), when somebody had gotten hit by a car and killed outside the arena on KISS’ previous tour. However, despite it’s tragic ending, the song became a rock anthem, was the inspiration behind one of our favorite rock & roll movies by the same name, and of course, is a fan favorite in Detroit. Where will this track land on our list of The Top Ten Destination songs? Tune in to an all new episode of The Top Ten Revealed this SUNDAY at 8/7c to find out!
